Te Hokinga Mai o nga Taonga ki Manurewa Marae

Saturday 17th May 08 - Te Hokinga Mai o nga Taonga ki Manurewa Marae. This was a very spiritual and moving occasion that was shared by approximately 200-250 people. This was also a culmination of one of the dreams that a number of Kaumatua and Kuia had as well as the BOT of Manurewa Marae.
A very warm welcome was extended to those families who have kindly contributed photos of their loved ones to grace "Te Whare o Matukuturua". This was a wonderful and spiritual occasion for all to gather and share in unison remembering whanau who dedicated their time and love in bringing to reality the dreams.
Acknowledgements alsom went out to Maori Affairs, Mana Whenua, Matukutureia MWWL, Manukau City Council, Lottery Grants Board, ASB Trust and the Wiri Licensing Trust.
The Pohiri and Karanga went off smoothly with the Reverend Raniera Bassett carrying out the opening karakia. After the whaikorero from both sides the Reverend Raniera Bassett blessed the photos and Taonga that were brought to the marae.
Of special mention was the fact that the flag of Te Arikinui Te Atairangi Kaahu was also one of the Taonga that was brought back to the Marae by the Whare Kahui Ariki representatives along with photos of Rua Cooper and Nanny Tuura and other Tainui Kaumatua and Kuia that complemented all those that were brought back to the Marae.
We will work in with Whaea Rose Whaiapu in ensuring that the photos and the taonga are hung up in the Wharenui - Matukuturua. The plaques donated by the Lottery Grants Board, and the Wiri Licensing Trust would be hung by the ASB Trust plaque. The Matukutureia MWWL plaque seems appropriate to be hung in the whare nui - Matukuturua.
