Manurewa Community Healing our Spirits

MANUREWA COMMUNITY

HEALING OUR SPIRITS MEETING

MANUREWA MARAE

As a result of the two violent deaths of Krishna Naidu and Pihema Clifford Cameron that occurred in Manurewa the community attended a hui on the 1st February 08, which was convened by the Manurewa Marae Board of Trustees, the Manurewa Maori Womens Welfare League and the Manurewa Maori Wardens. The hui was named ‘Manurewa Community Healing our spirits meeting', and was held at the Manurewa Marae. (Please click here to view minutes of that meeting).

The hui (meeting) was very successful and a large number of community residents and organizations, came together and discussed positive solutions to stop the ever increasing violence within Manurewa.

It was agreed at that hui, that another meeting be reconvened on the 5th March 2008, where 9 workshops to achieve solutions could be worked on further. His Worship the Mayor of Manukau City Len Brown attended this hui, and again it was a very successful day, where the community were able to break up into groups of their choice to discuss positive ideas, on how to stop the violence and increase the moral of the community.

Local schools were also invited, to add a younger perspective to the discussions. Click here to view a presentation of the meeting.

The nine workshops each had a facilitator who took on the responsibility of chairing the discussions, and brainstorming solutions. To view the outcomes of each of the workshops, simply click on each of the workshops, shown below:
