Demographics of Manurewa*

- Manukau is the third largest city in New Zealand with a population of 332,900 and is growing by 7000 people every year. The city is one of the most culturally diverse areas in New Zealand, with over 160 ethnic groups.
- The city is divided into 7 electoral wards: Manurewa, Mangere, Otara, Howick, Pakuranga, Papatoetoe, Botany-Celvedon. The Ward system was designed to allow for the recognition of communities within a district and to increase community involvement in the local government system. Ward boundaries are defined at meshblock level, but are not area unit definable.
- Manurewa is divided into Manurewa East and Manurewa Central. Based on 2006 Census, population of Manurewa East is 2,307, a change of 2% since 2001 and of Manurewa Central 3,882, a change of 7.5% since 2001.

- Manurewa is ethnically diverse with majority of its residents identifying their ethnic grouping as European (49%), Maori (27%), Pacific (22%), and Asian (9%).
